How should an institution shortlist digital asset vendors?

Start with the workflow, then identify the service and technology roles required to deliver it. Compare the exact product, contracting entity, jurisdiction, supported assets, integration requirements and total cost. Use named customer or issuance evidence to test relevance, while keeping appointments, product availability and actual usage separate.

Which type of digital asset provider do we need?

Role What you are buying Evidence to request
Custody service Safekeeping delivered by a third party. Contracting entity, asset treatment, supported assets, withdrawal process and controls.
Wallet & signing infrastructure Technology for managing keys, approvals and digital asset operations. Key-control model, recovery process, policy enforcement and deployment responsibilities.
Tokenization infrastructure Tools and services to issue and manage digital representations of assets. Issuance workflow, transfer restrictions, investor records and lifecycle servicing.
Stablecoin & payment infrastructure Issuance, conversion, transfer or settlement capabilities. Exact role in the funds flow, supported corridors, redemption dependencies and reconciliation.
Trading & liquidity Execution, brokerage or access to liquidity. Venue coverage, execution terms, settlement model and counterparty exposures.
Compliance & monitoring Tools for screening, investigating and monitoring activity. Network coverage, alert quality, case workflows and integration requirements.

This is a buyer’s map of functions, not a complete vendor directory or a regulatory classification.

What should banks, asset managers and payment firms compare?

Buyer question Evaluate first Confirm before shortlisting
A bank wants to offer custody to clients. Third-party safekeeping versus technology for running its own custody operation. Which entity holds assets, who controls signing and which responsibilities stay with the bank.
An asset manager needs safekeeping and trading. Custody account structures, execution and settlement dependencies. The precise portfolio type, asset treatment, trading access and withdrawal process.
A payment firm wants to use stablecoins. Using an existing token versus commissioning issuance; wallet, conversion and payment services. Issuer and redemption dependencies, eligible customers, networks and payment corridors.

These are buyer scenarios, not recommendations that a named provider meets every requirement.

What information should I collect before selecting a vendor?

  1. Define the workflow.

Name the assets, jurisdictions, users, transaction volumes and systems involved. Distinguish a client-facing service from internal treasury operations.

  2. Choose the operating model.

Decide which responsibilities you retain and which you delegate: safekeeping, key management, execution, compliance and reporting.

  3. Apply the non-negotiables.

Check entity eligibility, asset and network support, security requirements, recovery arrangements and integration fit before comparing additional features.

  4. Validate a real workflow.

Request a demonstration and evidence for the exact use case. Compare total costs, operational dependencies and exit arrangements on the same assumptions.

Which providers have named stablecoin issuance examples?

51 Intel’s curated issuance records identify Anchorage Digital Bank with Ethena Labs’ USDtb and Paxos with PayPal USD (PYUSD). Rechecking the linked evidence confirms the issuer relationships below. These records establish a specific product relationship; they do not establish payment volumes or a provider’s suitability for a new mandate.

Record in 51 Intel Verified fact What remains unproven Primary source
Anchorage Digital Bank / Ethena Labs · USDtb Anchorage’s reserve disclosure identifies USDtb as issued by its bank in partnership with Ethena Labs. Adoption scale, usage by a particular institution and eligibility for your proposed service. Reserve disclosure ↗
Paxos / PayPal · PYUSD PayPal’s terms identify Paxos as the issuer of PYUSD. Payment volume, complete current network coverage and commercial terms for a new issuer partnership. PayPal terms · PYUSD section ↗

Selected 51 Intel records; primary sources rechecked 3 November 2026. The PYUSD relationship was cross-checked against PayPal’s terms because the catalogue’s Paxos documentation URL was not directly retrievable during this review.

Are a custody provider and a wallet technology provider interchangeable?

No. The selected Fireblocks offering is self-custody infrastructure, while the custody offerings in this guide delegate safekeeping to a provider. Treat technology, custody and execution as separate responsibilities, even when a vendor supplies more than one of them.

What evidence should support a vendor shortlist?

A product page establishes what a vendor says it offers. A named deployment can support a claim about use in a particular setting. Neither establishes that the product fits every institution, market or asset. Record the date, scope and source alongside every material claim.

Where can I research digital asset vendors and institutional adoption?

51 Intel is a digital asset intelligence platform for strategy, corporate development and advisory teams. It brings company research, vendor market maps, institutional adoption evidence and Ask51 into one workspace. Use the public guides to frame a question, then examine the underlying market and company records in Intel.

For example, compare Anchorage Digital and Paxos in stablecoin issuance, then inspect the separately sourced records for USDtb and PYUSD. A custody relationship should not be carried over as evidence of stablecoin issuance.

51 Intel is a paid research workspace. These links require platform access. The public guides remain readable without an account.
